This is wonderful. Heard story about my little 7-year old neice Emma tonight.
Her best friend has moved to Texas, so she's been a bit down. She's started hanging around these two boys. Both liked Harry Potter like Emma does, so they got along fine. (Emma's a big HP fanatic. I've taught her well. She likes Harry, not Ron, can't see why I think Sirius and Remus are really cool and hot, and doesn't understand why I think Snape is one of the best characters in the series. She just thinks he's really too mean to Harry. She'll learn.) This being 3rd grade, all the other girls spend recess chasing the boys around. Viciously, if I remember my own childhood correctly. One day, they asked Emma, rather snarkily, why she played with "bo-oys" instead of with them. Emma stood up and looked at them and said (I quote) "What, run around all crazy like you do? Why would that be fun?" The girls, a bit bewildered, tried again, asking if she didn't want to be part of their group or with the other girls. Emma gave the 7-year old equivilant to "I'll do what I want. Go ffff..............ly a kite." I love my neice. She's growing up so fast. She's learning sarcasm too!
We're teaching her to survive.
